Samsung, SK Hynix Reportedly Testing Chinese Chip Equipment

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are reportedly assessing equipment from China’s Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment Inc. (AMEC) for their manufacturing facilities in China, according to three individuals with knowledge of the matter.
The evaluations are seen as a precautionary measure by the South Korean memory chip producers to mitigate risks associated with potential further restrictions on equipment exports by the United States to China.
Sources emphasized that the current evaluations do not confirm that AMEC's tools have met production qualifications, and no firm orders have been placed by either Samsung or SK Hynix. However, any future adoption of Chinese-made equipment by these major players would represent a significant shift for China's domestic semiconductor equipment sector and the companies' local production capabilities.
