Samsung's Galaxy Glasses to Support iPhone Connection, Some Features Exclusive

SEOUL – Samsung Electronics has confirmed that its upcoming Galaxy Glasses smart eyewear will be compatible with Apple iPhones, in addition to Samsung's own Galaxy devices and other Android phones. The confirmation was reported by the South Korean media outlet EtNews. Choi Jae-in, head of Samsung's MX division XR development team, stated that while the glasses will support other Android and iOS devices, "certain experiences will only be achievable within the Samsung ecosystem." This suggests a tiered functionality depending on the connected smartphone. Samsung positions the Galaxy Glasses not as a standalone device, but as an assistive accessory designed to extend mobile AI experiences beyond the smartphone screen. The eyewear is capable of recording and sharing video, playing music, and utilizing applications such as translation and maps. Further integration is planned with Samsung's Galaxy Watch. The smartwatch can reportedly control music playback, notifications, and calls on the glasses, and sync health data like heart rate. The Galaxy Glasses are powered by the Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chip and offer a claimed battery life of up to nine hours. The company has not detailed which specific features will be locked to the Samsung ecosystem. The broader implications for cross-platform compatibility in the burgeoning smart eyewear market remain to be seen.
