Samsung's One UI 9.0 operating system has been updated with a new security feature. If a user incorrectly enters their password 13 times consecutively, the device will be permanently locked and require a factory reset to regain access.

Samsung's latest One UI 9.0 operating system has implemented a new security policy for its lock screen. This update introduces a permanent device lock if a user repeatedly enters an incorrect password, PIN, or pattern 13 times in a row. To resume using the device after such a lock, a full factory reset will be necessary.
The company states that this change is intended to protect users from brute-force attacks, where malicious actors attempt various combinations to gain unauthorized access. The new measure aims to enhance the security of personal data stored on Samsung devices.
Following five failed unlock attempts, the system will initiate a temporary one-minute lock. Subsequent incorrect entries will progressively extend the lockout duration, culminating in the permanent lock after the 13th attempt. For example, the 12th incorrect entry could result in a 24-hour lockout.
Samsung also advises users who rely on biometric authentication, such as fingerprint or facial recognition, to remember their screen lock password. The system requires password entry every 72 hours to re-enable biometric unlocks. It remains unclear whether this security feature will be extended to older Samsung device models.
