SanDisk presents 1TB microSD Express card for Switch 2
SanDisk has unveiled a 1TB microSD Express expansion card designed for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 gaming console. The card utilizes the PCIe 3.1 NVMe interface for enhanced performance.
Storage solutions provider SanDisk showcased a 1 terabyte (TB) microSD Express expansion card at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, intended for the next-generation Nintendo Switch 2 gaming console. The card has received official Nintendo certification.
Moving away from the traditional, slower SD bus, the new card employs a PCIe 3.1 NVMe interface. This technological shift significantly increases the underlying bandwidth for external storage on the gaming console.
In terms of performance, the SanDisk card boasts sequential read speeds of up to 880 megabytes per second and write speeds of up to 800 megabytes per second. This represents a more than 3.5-fold increase in read speed compared to SanDisk's most advanced UHS-I cards that feature QuickFlow acceleration.
The introduction of this high-capacity and high-speed storage option is expected to enhance the gaming experience on the forthcoming Nintendo Switch 2 by allowing for faster game loading and potentially larger game installations.
