Sanofi Appoints New Leaders to Executive Committee
Sanofi announced personnel changes to its Executive Committee, appointing new heads for Research & Development and Business Operations. Emmanuel Frenehard also steps in immediately as Chief Digital Officer.

Sanofi has announced several appointments to its Executive Committee, restructuring key leadership roles. Houman Ashrafian will join as Head of Research & Development on September 11, 2023, while Madeleine Roach has been appointed Head of Business Operations, effective October 1, 2023. Emmanuel Frenehard assumes the role of Chief Digital Officer effective immediately.
The company also confirmed that Bill Sibold, Head of the Specialty Care Global Business Unit (GBU), is leaving Sanofi for an external opportunity. Brian Foard will serve as interim head of the Specialty Care GBU.
Ashrafian’s responsibilities will include bolstering the company's strategy for developing first or best-in-class medicines. Roach will lead the newly established Business Operations unit, aimed at integrating and expanding centralized services to drive efficiency and productivity. Frenehard will oversee the company's digital transformation and data strategy.
Sanofi CEO Paul Hudson stated that these appointments bring in leaders with expertise to execute the company's strategy. He highlighted the company's pipeline, which includes nearly 80 programs in clinical development, and noted Ashrafian's background in bringing transformational medicines to market.
