Sanofi presents new data from multiple sclerosis drug pipeline
Sanofi presented new data at the ECTRIMS-ACTRIMS meeting on three investigational treatments for multiple sclerosis (MS). The company is exploring multiple approaches to address disease progression and "smoldering neuroinflammation."
PARIS – Sanofi presented new data at the 9th Joint ECTRIMS-ACTRIMS meeting evaluating three investigational treatments for multiple sclerosis (MS). The company is exploring multiple approaches to address the underlying biology of MS and target "smoldering neuroinflammation," a key driver of disability progression.
The data presented include findings for tolebrutinib, an oral investigational Bruton’s tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitor designed to penetrate the brain and target neuroinflammation at its source. Also featured were data from frexalimab, a novel anti-CD40L antibody, and SAR443820, an oral investigational receptor-interacting protein kinase 1 (RIPK1) inhibitor.
"Our deep expertise in neuroimmunology has allowed us to explore distinct mechanisms that have the potential to halt this debilitating disease by directly crossing the blood-brain barrier or indirectly inhibiting the upstream immunological processes," said Erik Wallstroem, Global Head of Neurology Development, Sanofi. He highlighted tolebrutinib's potential to address neuroinflammation within the central nervous system.
The presented abstracts cover various aspects of the MS pipeline. For tolebrutinib, data included long-term extension study outcomes related to safety, efficacy, and MRI, as well as its effects on cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers and microglial pathways. Research on frexalimab focused on Phase 2 efficacy and safety results in relapsing MS, while SAR443820 studies investigated RIPK1 activation's role in MS progression.
