Saronic to Build Next-Generation Shipyard in Brownsville, Texas

Saronic has announced its intention to build a new, next-generation shipyard named Port Alpha in Brownsville, Texas. This planned investment, exceeding $3 billion, is designed to significantly expand U.S. shipbuilding capacity and bolster the nation's maritime industrial strength.

The facility is slated for construction at the Port of Brownsville and is projected to create up to 10,000 direct jobs. The project is estimated to generate over $160 billion in regional economic impact for Cameron County and $264.5 billion for the state of Texas. Construction is anticipated to commence in 2026, with operations expected to begin in 2028.

Saronic's Co-Founder and CEO, Dino Mavrookas, stated that Port Alpha will be built to deliver ships at a scale and speed not seen in decades, incorporating software-defined shipbuilding and autonomous maritime systems. The selection of Brownsville followed a comprehensive review of workforce availability, infrastructure, logistics, and expansion potential.

The initiative aligns with national efforts to rebuild the U.S. shipbuilding industry. Saronic plans to collaborate with state and local educational institutions to develop workforce training programs, aiming to establish South Texas as a hub for advanced maritime manufacturing.
