SAS and Partners Sign Agreement for Sustainable Aviation Fuel Production in Denmark
SAS, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Copenhagen Airport, and Aalborg Airport have signed a collaboration agreement to advance the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (eSAF) in Denmark.

Airline SAS and Danish infrastructure players have entered into an agreement aimed at accelerating the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (eSAF) in Denmark. The collaboration includes SAS, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), Copenhagen Airport (CPH), and Aalborg Airport (AAL).
The agreement centers on the Fjord PtX project, developed by CIP, which intends to produce synthetic aviation fuel. The partnership is expected to support Denmark's goals for reducing domestic aviation emissions and comply with EU's ReFuelEU Aviation requirements.
The initiative also aims to foster public awareness and regulatory support for the green transition. The objective is to position Denmark and Scandinavia as leaders in converting renewable energy sources into sustainable fuel production, thereby creating new green industrial jobs and enhancing energy autonomy.
SAS CEO Anko van der Werff emphasized the agreement's significance in achieving shared sustainability goals. Søren Toftgaard, partner at CIP, highlighted the role of governments and authorities in establishing supportive frameworks to launch the new industry.
The CEOs of Copenhagen and Aalborg airports, Christian Poulsen and Niels Kjær Hemmingsen, both noted their airports' support for the initiative as part of the aviation industry's necessary transition to more sustainable fuels and their own climate objectives.
