SAS announces largest investment in company history for fleet expansion

SAS announced its largest investment to date, committing to up to 40 Airbus widebody aircraft with a list price exceeding $10 billion. This significant capital expenditure is intended to enhance the airline's long-haul network and strengthen connectivity between Scandinavia and global markets for decades to come.

The order includes new Airbus A330-900neo aircraft, supplemented by additional A330-300s to support near-term growth. This investment follows last year's order for 55 Embraer E195-E2 regional jets and an ongoing renewal of the Airbus A320neo fleet, representing the most substantial fleet modernization in SAS' history.

Alongside the fleet announcement, SAS presented an analysis suggesting its planned expansion through Copenhagen Airport could create 25,000 additional jobs and contribute DKK 25 billion to GDP by 2030 in the region. SAS also signed a memorandum of understanding with SkyKraft to explore the development of e-SAF (electric Sustainable Aviation Fuel).

SAS, celebrating its 80th anniversary, emphasized the strategic importance of international connectivity. CEO Anko van der Werff stated that investing in the company's future and global reach creates lasting value for Denmark, the Öresund region, and Scandinavia as a whole.
