SAS opens new route to Nuuk, Greenland

SAS announced on October 23, 2024, that it will launch a new direct flight route from Copenhagen to Nuuk, Greenland, beginning June 27, 2025. This service aims to enhance travel connections to the Arctic region.

The new route follows the opening of Nuuk's international airport earlier this year. SAS's return to Greenland comes after nearly two decades, and the airline states the route will improve travel opportunities to and from Greenland, linking it to SAS's global network.

An existing commercial agreement with Air Greenland already facilitates Greenland's access to SAS's international network. This new direct service is presented as part of SAS's strategy to strengthen travel options within the Arctic.

"We are excited to improve the connection between Greenland, Scandinavia, and destinations worldwide through our cooperation with the SkyTeam alliance," said SAS President and CEO Anko van der Werff. "The new route meets a growing demand for adventurous travel experiences and simultaneously strengthens Copenhagen's position as a central hub for connections between Scandinavia and the world."

The flights are scheduled to operate during the summer season. SAS aims to highlight Nuuk as a unique and relatively untouched destination. The launch of the route is pending final government approval.
