SAS Reports 12 Percent Passenger Increase in April
SAS carried 2.1 million passengers in April, a 12 percent increase year-on-year. The airline also announced its upcoming September 1st integration into the SkyTeam alliance.
Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) reported a 12 percent year-on-year increase in passenger numbers for April, carrying a total of 2.1 million travelers. The airline's capacity saw a 7 percent expansion, while revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) grew by 9 percent compared to April 2023. The flown load factor for the month stood at 77 percent.
The company noted a solid operational performance during April, meeting targets for punctuality and regularity. This was achieved despite external disruptions, including the closure of Norwegian airspace on April 25th. SAS also confirmed its signing of an Alliance Adherence Agreement with SkyTeam, with the integration into the alliance scheduled for September 1, 2024.
President and CEO Anko van der Werff described the April developments as positive, highlighting the 12 percent passenger growth. He emphasized the significance of reaching the milestone in the alliance transition, stating that customers and EuroBonus members will benefit from new destinations and advantages as part of the SkyTeam network.
SAS's reported figures also include a decrease in CO2 emissions per available seat kilometer by 0.6 percent over a rolling 12-month period compared to the previous year, aligning with its broader sustainability goals. The airline aims to reduce its total CO2 emissions by 25% by 2025 compared to 2005 levels.
