Saudi Arabia Launches Ceer, Aims for Domestic EV Production
Saudi Arabia has launched Ceer, its first domestic automaker, as part of its Vision 2030 plan to diversify its economy and foster technological innovation. The company plans to produce electric vehicles.
Saudi Arabia has officially entered the automotive manufacturing sector with the launch of Ceer, the Kingdom's inaugural domestic automaker. This initiative is a key component of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, a strategic plan aimed at reducing the nation's reliance on oil and cultivating local technological capabilities by 2030.
Ceer, whose name signifies forward movement in Arabic, is a joint venture between Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and Taiwan's Foxconn. The company aims to develop and produce electric vehicles, with initial offerings including the Exobot sedan and SUV models. These vehicles serve as showcases for the company's intended product line and technological direction.
The automaker has ambitious plans to expand its portfolio to seven new vehicle models by the year 2030. This range will include hybrid options. While initial sales are slated for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, Ceer has indicated that international market expansion is a possibility should demand warrant it.
The establishment of Ceer represents a significant step in Saudi Arabia's economic diversification strategy, moving beyond its traditional oil-based economy into advanced manufacturing and sustainable transportation technologies.
