Save the Children and Vodafone Foundation Launch Global Humanitarian Partnership

Save the Children and Vodafone Foundation have initiated a global humanitarian partnership, announced at the United Nations General Assembly. The collaboration aims to strengthen emergency preparedness and response for children and communities affected by conflict, natural disasters, and other crises by combining humanitarian expertise with technology and connectivity.

A key component of the partnership is Vodafone Foundation's donation of six Instant Network kits. These portable communication systems are designed to rapidly restore connectivity when conventional networks fail due to conflict or disaster. Save the Children will be responsible for deploying and testing these kits at humanitarian hubs worldwide.

The organizations will also explore the use of Vodafone Foundation’s TerraGuard software and Vodacom M-Pesa payment services to improve risk anticipation and expedite aid delivery to affected families. Vodafone Foundation will support Save the Children’s Children’s Emergency Fund and aims to raise £1 million through employee fundraising.

Leaders from both organizations emphasized the partnership's significance amidst escalating global crises, including climate-related disasters and conflicts. They highlighted the need for investments in preparedness, resilient infrastructure, and technology to help communities anticipate and withstand emergencies, moving beyond reactive responses.
