Scams Exploit AI and Human Trust

Criminals are using artificial intelligence and social engineering to perpetrate increasingly sophisticated financial fraud. EURO Kartensysteme GmbH warns consumers about the evolving threat.

18 October 2026

Frankfurt, May 6, 2026 – Financial fraud is becoming more advanced as criminals leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and social engineering, manipulating individuals to exploit their trust. EURO Kartensysteme GmbH, operating in the payment card and security sector, is alerting the public to this growing threat. New methods are making fraudulent communications appear more authentic, complicating detection.

AI enables the creation of deceptive emails and text messages that are free of linguistic errors and can be personalized. Furthermore, AI facilitates the generation of "deepfake" videos and audio, impersonating known individuals or authorities. Spoofing of phone numbers and email addresses is also on the rise, making messages appear to originate from legitimate sources.

The primary goal of these scams remains the theft of sensitive data, such as banking credentials, or the initiation of direct payments. EURO Kartensysteme emphasizes that instead of breaching technical security systems, criminals are targeting human trust. Banks or authorities will never request passwords, PINs, or TANs.

Consumers are advised to critically examine all unexpected communications and demands. Situations presented as urgent or threatening should be treated as red flags. Instead of divulging information, individuals should always verify the matter through a separate, trusted channel. If sensitive data has been compromised, payment cards and online banking access should be blocked immediately.
