Scandic Hotels Group Enters Freiburg with New German Hotel

Scandic Hotels Group announced on September 7, 2026, its entry into Freiburg, Germany, a new destination for the hotel chain. The company is partnering with IREMIS, a pan-European real estate investment manager, which has acquired the property. Scandic will operate the hotel under a long-term lease agreement, with an expected opening in autumn 2027 following a full renovation.

Freiburg, located in southwestern Germany near the French and Swiss borders, is identified as an attractive city with strong demand from both leisure and business travelers. The hotel is situated directly opposite Freiburg's main railway station and adjacent to its convention center, placing it in a prime location for accessibility and business events.

The refurbishment will encompass all 219 rooms, redesigned restaurant and bar areas, upgraded meeting facilities, and renewed wellness areas. Scandic emphasizes sustainability, with plans for the hotel to be certified according to the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, focusing on energy performance and reduced environmental impact.

This expansion into Freiburg aligns with Scandic's strategy to grow selectively in Germany by repositioning existing hotel assets in strong markets. The company views this partnership as a demonstration of its ability to create value with property partners through operational expertise and a focus on sustainability.
