Scandic Norway Reduces Energy Consumption by Over 40 Percent
Scandic Norway has achieved over a 40 percent reduction in energy consumption at some of its hotels through a partnership with technology firm Green Norway. The measures required no new investment.
Scandic Norway has successfully reduced electricity consumption by more than 40 percent at select hotels in its portfolio, following a collaboration with the technology company Green Norway. The initiative focused on optimizing existing building systems without requiring additional capital investment.
The partnership utilized advanced data analysis and artificial intelligence to identify and implement energy-saving measures across 21 Scandic hotels in Norway. Besides reducing energy usage, the project has also contributed to improving the indoor climate conditions within the hotels.
"The collaboration with Green Norway has not only enabled us to reduce consumption but has also helped optimize the indoor climate in our hotels. We are constantly working to create better and more sustainable hotel experiences for our guests, so this is a win-win situation for us," said Mikkel Vangsgaard, Director of Technical Services at Scandic Norway.
Green Norway's CEO, Erik Åbyholm, explained that their method identifies and eliminates unnecessary energy waste by improving the efficiency of existing heating, cooling, and ventilation systems. He noted that many buildings use more energy than needed, and their approach focuses on leveraging current infrastructure effectively to achieve significant savings. Scandic Norway is notably the only hotel chain in Norway certified with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel.
