Scandic to open alpine hotel in Sälen
Scandic Hotels Group is expanding in Sweden by opening a new alpine hotel in the Sälen ski resort. The hotel is expected to open during the 2027/2028 season.
Scandic Hotels Group has signed a long-term lease agreement with Lima Besparingsskog to open a new hotel in Sälen, one of Scandinavia's largest ski resorts. The hotel, set to open for the 2027/2028 winter season, will feature 120 rooms and 16 apartments, along with conference facilities.
The new Scandic hotel will be strategically located between Tandådalen and Hundfjället, offering convenient access to both family-friendly slopes and more challenging runs. The property will be designed in a classic alpine style, featuring a wooden facade and balconies overlooking the mountain landscape, with ski-in, ski-out access directly to the ski area.

Our growth strategy is clear: we want to strengthen our position in the Nordic countries by expanding in attractive, new locations," said Jens Mathiesen, President & CEO of Scandic Hotels Group. He noted that Sälen is an established and popular destination with high demand.
The hotel will also include a wellness area with a pool, gym, and several saunas. To minimize environmental impact, operations will be certified by the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, including the use of 100% renewable electricity and efforts to reduce food waste.
