Scania adds 11-litre option to Super powertrain range for buses
Scania has unveiled an 11-litre version of its Super powertrain, targeting improvements in fuel efficiency, serviceability, and component lifespan for public transport.

Scania has expanded its combustion engine portfolio for buses and coaches with the introduction of an 11-litre Super powertrain. The new unit, which follows the release of the 13-litre version six months prior, is designed for both urban and long-distance transport operations.
Available in three power outputs—350, 390, and 430 hp—the 11-litre engine is engineered to offer significant fuel savings, estimated at up to ten percent over its predecessors. The system includes Variable Valve Braking (VVB) technology, which improves braking efficiency and allows for potential weight reductions by replacing traditional retarders in specific operating conditions.
Serviceability has been a key focus of the redesign, with fuel and oil filters relocated to the engine's cooler side. This change allows for maintenance without waiting for the engine to cool, aiming to reduce workshop downtime. Additionally, the engine's design lifespan is rated at two million kilometres, representing a 25 percent increase in durability compared to previous iterations.
"The new Super 11 powertrain will help customers reduce their CO2 footprint while providing an economically competitive solution," said Anders Liss, Global Head of Business Solutions for People Transport Solutions at Scania. The platform remains compatible with renewable fuels such as HVO and biodiesel.
