Scania begins sales of battery electric trucks in Singapore

Swedish truck manufacturer Scania has begun selling its battery electric trucks in Singapore as of April 6, 2022.

The company also announced its first sales agreement for 15 battery electric trucks with waste management firm ALBA W&H Smart City. These vehicles mark the first European-branded battery electric trucks to be sold in the city-state.

Scania aims to support Singapore's goal of transitioning to cleaner energy sources for all vehicles by 2040 with this initiative. The company also seeks to meet its own science-based targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The initial batch of trucks is entering production planning, during which Scania will homologate the vehicles and associated charging infrastructure in Singapore. A second batch will demonstrate the company's capability for larger-scale fleet deployment.

ALBA W&H Smart City stated that Singapore is a logical choice for establishing its first fleet of fully electric vehicles, having monitored the EV market for several years and finding Scania's trucks suitable for their daily waste collection operations.
