Scania concludes support for ventilator production
Scania has phased out its support for medical technology firm Getinge's ventilator production, which aimed to triple output during the pandemic. The company lent 40 employees to assist Getinge.

Automaker Scania is gradually concluding its support for medical technology firm Getinge in increasing ventilator production. Six months ago, Scania lent 40 of its skilled workers to Getinge to help the company triple its production capacity in response to pandemic-driven demand.
The goal was to increase output from the normal rate of 10,000 ventilators annually to three times that amount. The employees who were loaned out are now gradually returning to Scania as production targets have been met.
Scania offered assistance when its own production in Södertälje had been halted due to component shortages. Getinge accounts for one-quarter of the world's ventilator market, and increasing its production swiftly was critical for hospitals facing acute equipment shortages.
Scania employees, typically working in engine assembly and material handling, brought their expertise and precision to Getinge's facility. Despite differences in the work environment, the employees adapted quickly and found meaning in their contribution.
