Truck manufacturer Scania has delivered a fully electric truck with a gross weight of 64 tons to the chemical supplier Wibax. The vehicle will operate on the route between Piteå and Skellefteå in northern Sweden, a distance of 80 kilometers each way.

The electric truck, with a total weight of 64 tons including load and trailer, is powered by a new, more powerful electric motor. This delivery is the result of close collaboration between Scania and Wibax, aiming to optimize the vehicle's usage over time. This includes charging strategies, battery lifespan optimization, and route planning.

For Wibax, the new electric truck is a key element in their efforts to reduce their operational environmental impact. "We have strived to be sustainable since the company was founded in 1986, and transport has been identified as our largest environmental impact. This electric truck allows us to continue our operations with the environment in mind. Over the vehicle's lifespan, we will reduce our carbon dioxide emissions by up to 1,370 tons," stated Jonas Wiklund, CEO of Wibax Group.

Fredrik Allard, Head of E-mobility at Scania, emphasizes this as a step toward broader electrification of heavy transport. "This is the first 64-tonner operating with a customer. It demonstrates that electric solutions are developing rapidly and are applicable to virtually all segments," Allard commented.

In addition to the vehicle itself, the need for charging infrastructure has also been addressed. Energy company Skellefteå Kraft has provided the necessary charging infrastructure to enable the operation of the electric truck and trailer combination.
