Scania Drives Circularity with Smart Asset Management for Electric Vehicles
Scania is developing new business models focused on smart asset management to advance circularity and the adoption of electric vehicles. The company aims to make electric trucks available as a service.

Swedish truck manufacturer Scania is emphasizing circularity and smart asset management as part of its strategy to drive the shift towards sustainable transport. The company is developing new solutions to support customers in transitioning from internal combustion engine trucks to battery-electric vehicles (BEV), thereby reducing its own material footprint.
Scania's Ventures and New Business (VNB) unit is advancing circularity through various initiatives. These include flexible financing options, such as the pay-per-use electric truck service offered by the JUNA joint venture. This model encompasses maintenance, repairs, insurance, and electrification support, facilitating customer adoption of electric fleets.
The company is currently building a platform for usage-based financing and lifecycle management of electric vehicles. This solution will enable Scania to own vehicles throughout their entire lifespan, optimizing their use and value recovery through digital tools. Particular focus is placed on managing battery lifecycles and implementing reuse strategies.
Global trends, including rising raw material costs, geopolitical tensions, and stricter environmental regulations, are increasing pressure and creating opportunities for the circular economy. EU directives require companies to track and reduce their environmental impact. Digitalization and predictive maintenance are supporting the development of these new business models.
Scania views the circular economy as a significant business opportunity. In the future, the company plans to offer customers more diverse ownership models, such as short-term leases, to meet varied needs and collectively drive the transition to sustainable transport.
