Scania Electric Machine Wins Top New Products Award

Scania Group's EM 505A industrial electric machine has been recognized with a 2026 Top New Products award from OEM Off-Highway, securing a win in the Drivetrains category. The award acknowledges innovations shaping the future of on- and off-road equipment.

The EM 505A, developed in-house by Scania as part of a complete electrified power solution, delivers 230 kW of continuous power. It is designed for use in both fully electric and hybrid applications, offering equipment manufacturers greater flexibility in developing lower-emission solutions.

A key advantage of the EM 505A is its versatility, facilitated by an integrated clutch. This allows the electric machine to function as part of a hybrid or fully electric setup, or as a generator. This adaptability can streamline the transition to full electrification, while hybrid operation provides supplementary power and extended range. In electric mode, the lower noise levels also enhance operator working environments and make the solution suitable for urban settings.

Scania acts as a single system supplier, simplifying the process for equipment manufacturers who can source the entire power system—including the electric machine, inverter, control system, batteries, and combustion engine—from one provider. Björn Winblad, Director of e-Mobility Solutions, stated the award is a significant acknowledgement of the team's work in developing sustainable solutions and supporting customer electrification journeys.
