Scania enables fully electric 64-ton food transport for Dagab

Swedish manufacturer Scania is supplying a fully electric 64-ton truck to Dagab, Axfood's procurement and logistics arm, for food transportation services in the Gothenburg region. The deployment represents a key advancement in the company's commitment to a fossil-free fleet.

Dagab previously became the first in Sweden to operate Scania's fully electric heavy-duty truck in 2021. This latest addition expands their electric fleet, with the 64-ton vehicle being the first of its kind for food transport. The collaboration aims to significantly reduce the climate and environmental impact of logistics.

The new electric truck will run on green electricity and is expected to operate for at least two shifts daily, covering an estimated 350-450 kilometers per day. Scania emphasizes the critical role of charging infrastructure in supporting heavy electric transport, a factor integrated into this partnership.

Fredrik Allard, Head of E-mobility at Scania, highlighted that while the technology is available, the expansion of charging infrastructure is essential for practical implementation of electric urban solutions. Dagab's Transport Manager, Helena Blom, noted that this scale of electric truck will achieve substantial emissions reductions, contributing to their goal of net-zero emissions by 2030.

This project is part of the REEL initiative, a national collaboration aimed at accelerating the adoption of electric and zero-emission heavy-duty transport. The truck is scheduled for operational start after the summer of 2022.
