Scania Engines Power Viking 46 Billfish Yacht in Production

Scania, a manufacturer of engines for vehicles and machinery, has confirmed that its new 900 horsepower DI13-liter engines will be featured in the Viking Yacht Company's 46-foot sportfishing yacht, the 46 Billfish. This move signifies Scania's entry into the North American recreational marine market with these specific engines.

The 46 Billfish, a new model from established yacht builder Viking, will be equipped with twin Scania DI13 engines. The vessel was commissioned by Mack Boring to serve as a showcase for the performance and reliability of Scania's recently introduced engines in this sector. The yacht is slated for tours along the East Coast of the United States, participating in fishing tournaments and industry events.

Viking is known for producing high-quality sportfishing and motor yachts. The 46 Billfish is designed for both offshore tournaments and cruising, emphasizing efficiency and a strong power-to-weight ratio. Scania's DI13 engines feature a Compacted Graphite Iron block and a simple wastegate turbocharger, designed to deliver strong torque, lower noise levels, and optimize fuel efficiency.

The engines are expected to provide substantial acceleration and fuel economy. Viking's International Sales Manager, Anthony Scola, stated the company is looking forward to seeing the vessel underway. Patrick McGovern, President of Mack Boring, highlighted the engines' efficiency and Scania's support, noting a goal of 98% parts availability within 24 hours.
