Scania introduces Advanced Driver Assistance Systems for its new bus generation
Scania Group has integrated Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) into its new bus generation to enhance safety and reduce accident risks for passengers, drivers, and road users.

Swedish vehicle manufacturer Scania Group has incorporated Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) into its latest generation of buses, aiming to improve road safety. These systems are designed to assist drivers in navigating complex traffic environments and protecting all road users.
The ADAS suite comprises software, sensors, and cameras. Key functionalities include helping drivers manage traffic blind spots, maintain safe distances in heavy traffic, and providing warnings for potential hazards, particularly concerning vulnerable road users like pedestrians and cyclists.
While ADAS represents an additional investment for bus and coach operators, Scania highlights its potential for long-term cost savings. The company estimates that the average cost of a bus accident can exceed €8,000, factoring in repair costs, downtime, and driver absence. ADAS technology can help mitigate these expenses and improve vehicle uptime.
Features specifically beneficial for urban bus operations include an advanced adaptive cruise control system that allows vehicles to come to a standstill and resume motion without driver intervention, and a vulnerable road user collision warning system active at low speeds. A blind spot warning function is also available.
Scania is further developing safety features such as lane keep assist and driver drowsiness alerts, with expected market introductions in the coming years. The company anticipates that widespread adoption of these systems will increase driver satisfaction and contribute to overall traffic safety.
