Scania Introduces Electric Trucks for Regional Long-Haul

Swedish truck manufacturer Scania has introduced a new generation of battery-electric trucks (BEV) specifically designed for regional long-haul operations. These trucks, available with R or S sleeper cabs, represent a significant advancement in the capabilities of electric trucks.

Equipped with a 624 kWh battery capacity, Scania's new BEV trucks offer a range of up to 350 kilometers on a single charge for a 4x2 tractor configuration, assuming an average speed of 80 km/h on motorways. This aims to open up electrified transport solutions to a wider customer base.

"This introduction represents a major milestone for us and for our partners," stated Scania CEO Christian Levin. "We are now increasing our range in every dimension by offering new opportunities for a vast selection of customers and the whole transport ecosystem."

The vehicles are part of Scania's roadmap to achieve its science-based targets for CO2 reduction. The company is offering complete solutions that include charging, financing, insurance, and maintenance to facilitate the transition to electric vehicles for its customers.

Production of the new electric trucks is set to commence in the fourth quarter of 2023. Scania emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive charging infrastructure to accelerate the shift towards a fossil-free transport system.
