Scania is launching its Megawatt Charging System (MCS) for electric trucks, with commercial availability beginning early 2026. The system promises to charge a truck's battery from 20 to 80 percent in under 30 minutes.

Scania has announced the upcoming launch of its Megawatt Charging System (MCS) for its electric trucks, with commercial availability set for early 2026. This new system represents a significant advancement in charging technology designed to make heavy-duty electric transport more practical and efficient.
The MCS, an international standard for fast-charging electric trucks, is specified for up to 3,000 amperes. Scania's initial MCS offering will provide up to 1,000 amperes, enabling a substantial battery charge—from 20 percent to 80 percent—in less than 30 minutes. This charging speed is intended to align with driver rest periods, facilitating longer operational ranges for electric freight.
Electric trucks equipped with Scania's MCS will be capable of charging at up to 750 kW, a rate approximately double that of the current CCS2 standard. Achieving these high charging speeds necessitates advanced safety features, including liquid-cooled connectors and enhanced communication protocols to ensure stable and reliable operation.
Orders for Scania electric trucks featuring MCS will open in early 2026. Alongside the vehicle launch, Scania is working to establish a robust charging infrastructure across Europe. Plans include the development of MCS corridors along key transport routes starting from 2025. Furthermore, Scania is collaborating with partners in the Milence initiative to deploy 1,700 high-performance charging points in Europe by 2027.
