Scania introduces new digital dashboards for trucks and buses

Swedish vehicle manufacturer Scania is making a significant advancement by introducing new digital dashboards, named 'Smart Dash', for its trucks and buses. This update is based on a modular electronics architecture and brings a range of new safety features.

The core of the Smart Dash is its Centre Information Display, which provides drivers with seamless daily digital support. It integrates smoothly with other Scania digital services, such as the My Scania portal and the Scania Driver App, enhancing user experience and efficiency.

The new electrical system architecture is designed to meet the EU's new General Safety Regulation and UN's new cybersecurity regulations. The system also enables Over-The-Air (OTA) updates, potentially via 5G connections in the future. Scania emphasizes the improved Human-Machine Interface (HMI), for which Smart Dash is a key component in enhancing safety.

The requirements of the EU's General Safety Regulation and cybersecurity rules come into effect in July 2024. Scania's new architecture supports faster communication and a higher level of cybersecurity. The company views this development as part of its digitalization journey, combining advanced connectivity features with driver-supportive services.

Scania is strongly investing in both passive and active safety solutions. New systems include enhanced cameras, radar, and sensors to help drivers avoid accidents, especially in urban environments. The different performance levels of Smart Dash will replace Scania's current solutions and can be ordered for trucks entering production in early 2024.
