Scania Invest Takes Minority Stake in Autonomous Technology Firm Waabi

Scania Invest, the venture capital and strategic M&A arm of truck manufacturer Scania, has made a minority investment in Waabi, a Canadian company specializing in autonomous driving technology.

Waabi has developed an end-to-end AI system and simulation platform for autonomous trucking. The company states its technology is provably safe, cost-efficient, and reduces the need for extensive on-road testing. Waabi is currently operating commercially in the United States and plans to launch fully driverless autonomous trucks in 2025.

This investment aligns with Scania's strategic goals for autonomous transport solutions, which the company views as crucial for achieving safer, more efficient, and sustainable transportation systems. Scania Invest joins other investors in this round, including NVIDIA, Uber, and Porsche Automobil Holding SE.

Scania Invest aims to leverage its industry expertise and global scaling capabilities to support Waabi's growth. The investment marks a significant step for Scania Invest, established in December 2023 to focus on key technological areas impacting the future transport ecosystem.
