Scania Launches New 11-Litre Super Engine
Scania has introduced a new 11-litre engine to its Super range. The lighter and more efficient engine is designed for weight-critical operations and will be available for order from June.
Swedish manufacturer Scania has unveiled a new 11-litre engine, expanding its Super engine line-up. The new powerplant is positioned between the existing 9- and 13-litre diesel engines and is engineered for weight-critical operations where maximizing payload is essential.
The new engine is up to 85 kg lighter than the 13-litre Super engine and offers up to 7% improved fuel efficiency compared to the 9-litre equivalent. It will be available in three power outputs: 350 hp (1800 Nm), 390 hp (2000 Nm), and 430 hp (2200 Nm). Scania states the 11-litre engine is designed to perform across various applications, from urban logistics to regional haulage.
Scania reports that up to 85% of the components in the new 11-litre engine are shared with the 13-litre Super engine, potentially streamlining service and parts availability. Furthermore, maintenance intervals have been extended by up to 30% compared to the 9-litre engine, aiming to increase vehicle uptime and reduce overall service costs.
Key technological features include variable valve timing (cam phaser) for optimized combustion and engine thermal management. The engine also incorporates new software, balance shafts for reduced vibration, and a robust engine brake system. It is compatible with HVO fuel, and the 390 hp and 430 hp variants can be prepared for FAME usage.
The new 11-litre Super engine will be available for order starting in June 2025. Scania plans to make its global debut for the powertrain at the Road Transport Expo in the UK, taking place from June 24–26.
