Scania Outlines Electrification Roadmap Through 2030
Heavy vehicle manufacturer Scania has detailed its electrification roadmap, aiming for 50 percent of its total vehicle sales to be electrified by 2030.

Scania, a manufacturer of heavy vehicles, has outlined a multi-year roadmap detailing its strategy for transitioning to electrified transport solutions. The plan aims to introduce new electrified product offerings annually, with a target for 50 percent of total vehicle sales to be electrified by 2030.
The company cited increasing sustainability demands, growing customer profitability due to energy and road fee considerations, and rapid advancements in battery capacity and charging technology as key drivers for the accelerated shift towards electrification. Scania has committed to Science Based Targets for 2025 and aims for net-zero emissions by 2040, covering both its own operations and the use of its products.
According to the roadmap, 2022 will see an updated plug-in hybrid model with a 60 km electric range. In 2023, heavier battery-electric trucks for regional transport will be introduced, followed by long-distance electric trucks in 2024 designed for charging during driver breaks. By 2025, Scania anticipates electrifying most applications, including construction, mining, and timber transport, with electrified vehicles expected to constitute 10 percent of sales.
Scania acknowledges that successful electrification is dependent on the availability of charging infrastructure and renewable electricity. The company is actively pursuing partnerships to address these needs, viewing them as critical for enabling the transition. While a significant portion of sales is targeted for electrification by 2030, total profitability for all applications in all markets may take longer to achieve.
