Scania to supply 248 buses for Rabat's urban transport modernization

Swedish manufacturer Scania is supplying 248 new low-entry buses to Rabat, the capital of Morocco. This delivery is part of a comprehensive modernization of the city's urban transport system, aimed at accommodating its rapidly growing population.

The buses, identified as Scania K250 Euro 5 models, were jointly developed with Chinese partner Higer. Each bus can accommodate 85 passengers, with 33 designated seating positions. The operational contract has been awarded to Spanish company ALSA, in collaboration with Moroccan operator CityBus.

Scania has established itself as a significant supplier in the Moroccan bus market, having previously delivered vehicles to ALSA for operations in Agadir, Marrakech, and Tangier. This track record of successful deliveries influenced ALSA's decision to partner with Scania for the Rabat project.

The modernization initiative extends beyond new vehicles to include technological upgrades and a new integrated ticketing system designed to work with the city's tramway network. Rabat is home to 1.8 million residents, and its public transport system serves approximately 100 million passengers annually.
