Scania trucks pilot human jump in autonomous technology test
Scania's autonomous trucks precisely timed their movement to allow a professional cyclist to jump between them, showcasing advanced AI technology. The test was a collaboration with Red Bull and PlusAI.

Scania has successfully demonstrated the capabilities of its autonomous trucks by enabling a professional cyclist to jump between two vehicles moving towards each other. The stunt, involving Red Bull athlete Matt Jones, saw the rider pass through a gap of less than a second between the precisely synchronized autonomous trucks.
The challenge was a collaborative effort between Scania, Red Bull, and AI technology provider PlusAI. The execution involved months of meticulous planning, advanced software development, practice sessions, and safety checks to ensure the precise timing required for the stunt.
Scania aims to drive the shift towards sustainable transport systems, with autonomous solutions being a key component of this strategy. "This challenge was a glimpse of what’s possible when breakthrough autonomous technology delivers precision and safety you can count on," stated Peter Hafmar, Head of Autonomous Solutions at Scania.
The company's autonomous mining trucks are currently available to customers, and Scania is also developing the technology for hub-to-hub freight transport on public roads. Scania is conducting safety driver-accompanied trials on European roads in partnership with PlusAI.
