Sceye and SoftBank Corp. Demonstrate Stratospheric Connectivity in Japan
Sceye and SoftBank Corp. have completed a demonstration of stratospheric connectivity in Japan, moving closer to the commercialization of their HAPS system.

Sceye and SoftBank Corp. have concluded a successful demonstration of a stratospheric connectivity system in Japan. The test flight, part of Sceye's service testing program, traversed over 15,000 kilometers in the stratosphere, traveling from New Mexico to Japan.
The mission validated the High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) system's ability to connect directly to SoftBank Corp.'s main network. The testing also confirmed its capabilities for direct device connectivity, edge computing, and communication with drones. These successful validations represent a significant step towards the commercial deployment of the technology.
HAPS systems utilize airborne platforms, similar to aircraft or drones, operating at high altitudes in the stratosphere, approximately 20 kilometers above the Earth's surface. They are designed to provide mobile network coverage and capacity, particularly beneficial for remote areas or regions affected by damage to terrestrial networks.
While the companies have not announced a specific timeline for commercial launch, the successful completion of these tests is seen as a crucial advancement for integrating HAPS technology into global telecommunications infrastructure.
