During the flight over Japan, Sceye and its partner SoftBank Corp. successfully verified direct connections to unmodified devices and drone communication using the HAPS (High Altitude Platform Station) system. These tests demonstrated the potential for stratospheric platforms to provide network connectivity.
The craft, also referred to as a HAPS, is designed to operate in the stratosphere at approximately 20 kilometers altitude for durations ranging from a couple of weeks to several months. This altitude allows the platform to offer extensive network coverage without the limitations of terrestrial base stations, potentially extending connectivity to remote or disaster-stricken areas.
The flight's success highlights the advanced capabilities of HAPS technology and its capacity for sustained operations in challenging environments. The collaboration between Sceye and SoftBank aims to expand and enhance global communication networks.
