Schurter launches thermal fuse with low tripping temperature
SCHURTER AG has introduced a new variant of its RTS thermal fuse with a tripping temperature above 175°C. The compact component provides overtemperature protection for power electronics.
Swiss component manufacturer SCHURTER AG has expanded its RTS thermal fuse line with a new variant featuring a tripping temperature exceeding 175°C. This development enhances the protection capabilities for power semiconductors in demanding applications.
The RTS thermal fuse is designed to safeguard power semiconductors against overheating, a critical concern in modern electronics. The component is suitable for surface-mount technology and can withstand reflow soldering processes up to 260°C. The new lower tripping point offers improved protection for common power semiconductor operating temperatures.
This protection is crucial for preventing thermal runaway, a self-reinforcing overheating process exacerbated by increasing power density and miniaturization in electronic circuits. When the component reaches its 175°C threshold, the thermal fuse reliably interrupts the electrical circuit.
Despite its minimal footprint of 6.6 x 8.8 mm, the RTS offers significant performance, handling operating currents up to 130A and rated voltages up to 60VDC. The component also includes an integrated shunt resistor, enabling precise current measurement and an additional, non-thermal circuit protection mechanism through a control system.
