Frictional Games, the studio behind horror titles Amnesia and SOMA, has announced a delay for its new game, Ontos. Originally slated for a 2026 release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, the game will now launch in 2027.

The developer stated that Ontos is their most ambitious project to date in terms of scope, story, and gameplay depth. The decision to postpone the release was made to ensure the game meets expectations and fulfills the development team's vision.

Described as a spiritual successor to SOMA, Ontos is a sci-fi suspense thriller that unfolds on a converted moon hotel. Players will investigate mysteries and encounter strange events, exploring the nature of reality and deepening the philosophical themes present in SOMA.

Creative director Thomas Grip previously indicated that the team has spent the decade since SOMA's release working to push its design concepts and philosophical depth to new heights.
