Science Against Fascism Campaign Launched

The second nationwide "Science Against Fascism" campaign is set to begin in Germany in October 2026. The initiative seeks to advance discourse within academia and at universities regarding societal development and the responsibilities of researchers.

A series of events is scheduled from November 16-20, 2026, following a similar campaign in June 2026 that involved over 100 cities. The campaign's objectives include fostering networking and establishing "resilient" structures, particularly as right-wing actors increase pressure on academic freedom.

The campaign also aims for a more profound analysis of the underlying causes of current political trends. The author notes that social science analyses have often remained superficial, at times inaccurately categorizing right-wing movements as "right-wing populism" or "authoritarianism" before addressing the origins of fascism.

A prominent analytical approach involves critiquing liberalism and property ownership, as explored in Eva von Redecker's book "Über den neuen Faschismus." This perspective advocates for a "post-liberal anti-fascism," challenging established liberal frameworks and their role in the contemporary political climate.
