Science: Intelligence Not Key to Wealth; Conscientiousness More Important

New research challenges the common belief that a high IQ is the primary driver of wealth. A study led by Nobel laureate economist James Heckman indicates that innate intelligence plays a minimal role, estimated at only 1-2 percent, in an individual's future financial success.

Instead, the research identifies three key personality traits that significantly correlate with the likelihood of achieving financial prosperity. Heckman refers to these traits as conscientiousness, encompassing self-discipline, perseverance, and diligence. Unlike innate intelligence, these characteristics are actively developable and can be honed over time.

The findings align with perspectives from successful business figures, such as Mark Cuban, who emphasizes that success stems from a willingness to "outwork and outlearn everyone," rather than solely from money or connections. This highlights the importance of practical application and dedication.

This study offers a revised understanding of the factors contributing to financial success, suggesting a focus on developing personal attributes like diligence and perseverance as more impactful strategies for wealth accumulation.
