Seaspan Issues 1.5 Billion RMB Panda Bonds in Chinese Market
Seaspan Corporation becomes the first international shipowner and operator to access China's domestic Panda bond market. Proceeds will fund the company's fleet development.

Singapore – August 7, 2026 – Seaspan Corporation Pte. Ltd. has successfully issued 1.5 billion RMB (approximately USD 205 million) in Panda bonds on China's domestic debt market. The company is the first international shipowner and marine operator to tap into this capital pool.
Panda bonds are RMB-denominated debt securities that can be issued in China by non-Chinese entities. Seaspan's successful issuance signals growing accessibility to Chinese capital markets for international corporations.
The company stated that proceeds from the bonds will be used for general corporate purposes, including refinancing existing debt and funding its fleet. This bond issuance reinforces Seaspan's position as a significant entity in maritime financing.
Seaspan is one of the world's largest independent owners and operators of shipping assets, primarily focusing on containerships and dry bulk vessels, serving a broad global customer base. The Panda bond issuance in China opens new financing avenues for the company within the Asian market.
