A Seattle-based company has embarked on an ambitious initiative to replicate the impact of 15,000 years of solar wind exposure on the lunar surface in just four hours.

The solar wind, a stream of charged particles originating from the Sun, has been bombarding the Moon for billions of years. The Moon's lack of a magnetic field or atmosphere leaves its surface continuously exposed to this particle flow.

Central to this process is helium-3, an isotope of helium produced by the Sun's nuclear fusion. This helium-3 has become embedded within the lunar soil, or regolith, over eons. Meteorite impacts have periodically churned the regolith, mixing some of this helium-3 below the immediate surface.

The simulation aims to study the long-term effects of solar wind under lunar conditions. While specific methodologies and objectives are still being detailed, the project offers potential insights into lunar geology and the implications for future space exploration and resource utilization.
