Seaweed Extract Alleviates Prostate Symptoms in Clinical Trial
A clinical trial conducted by Australian company Marinova demonstrated that a fucoidan seaweed extract significantly improved symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Australian biotechnology firm Marinova has released results from a clinical study indicating that its fucoidan seaweed extract effectively alleviates symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The 90-day randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study involved 88 men aged 45-80 with moderate BPH who received either the fucoidan supplement or a placebo.
BPH is a prevalent condition in aging men, often leading to urinary symptoms that impact quality of life. The study found that participants taking the fucoidan extract experienced clinically significant improvements in overall BPH symptoms, including voiding and storage issues, and reported a notable enhancement in their quality of life.
"We are very encouraged by these findings," stated lead researcher Dr. Barbara Wimmer. "This research validates fucoidan's potential to support prostate health, especially as few natural compounds have undergone rigorous clinical investigation for BPH."
The fucoidan extract was found to be safe and well-tolerated throughout the trial period. The study's findings have been published in the peer-reviewed journal "Research and Reports in Urology." Marinova intends to leverage these outcomes for the development of fucoidan-based products aimed at managing BPH symptoms.
