Secunet Security Networks AG has secured approval for its high-speed connector (HSK) from gematik, the German national agency for digital medicine. The company is the first provider on the market to achieve this certification for the health telematics infrastructure (TI).

The HSK is a server-based software solution designed to replace the numerous individual connectors currently in use at hospitals and other large healthcare facilities. Secunet states this will significantly reduce operating and administrative expenses. The solution is offered both as an on-site appliance for customer data centers and as a "housing" service in a certified external data center.

According to the company, the HSK simplifies management through a graphical interface, referred to as a "dashboard." It also incorporates fallback and failover capabilities. This eliminates the previous requirement for manual assignment of card terminals to individual connectors for redundancy, a necessity with single-box solutions. The HSK utilizes virtual device identities, removing the need for physical patient or provider cards (gSMC-K).

"There is no single path to the telematics infrastructure. But there is the right solution for every requirement profile. For the next generation of the TI, the focus is shifting to new concepts that enable greater performance, flexibility and centralised administration. With the high-speed connector, secunet offers the technical basis for this," stated Markus Linnemann, Vice President Division eHealth at secunet.
