German cybersecurity firm secunet announced the launch of its SINA Cloud solution, which has gained approval from the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) for handling classified information up to the GEHEIM (secret) level. This makes secunet the first provider to offer a fully approved cloud solution for highly sensitive data under German regulations.

The SINA Cloud allows authorities and companies dealing with classified information to adopt cloud technologies while adhering to Germany's strict Classified Information Handling Regulations (VSA). Previously, these requirements have slowed the adoption of cloud services in the public sector and security-critical industries.

Secunet's CTO, Dr. Kai Martius, highlighted the solution's significance. "SINA Cloud is a game changer for handling classified information," he stated. "Authorities and companies subject to secrecy regulations can now modernize their IT in a compliant manner, based on open architectures. This reduces dependence on non-European providers, supporting Germany's drive for digital sovereignty."

The SINA Cloud is built on open-source components like OpenStack and utilizes secunet's robust SINA security solution. It offers flexible scalability and allows for secure processing of multiple clients' data on a single infrastructure. The company also plans to launch an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offering in the second half of 2025.

Secunet intends to make its solution available to other German cloud providers to foster domestic cloud expertise and sovereignty. The BSI offers opportunities to explore and test the SINA Cloud at its exhibition center in Freital.
