Secunet SBC Receives NATO and EU Approvals for VoIP Security
Secunet Security Networks AG's Session Border Controller (SBC) has obtained NATO and EU approvals. This allows for the secure coupling of VoIP networks handling classified information.
IT security company Secunet Security Networks AG announced that its Session Border Controller (SBC) has received approvals for use within NATO and the European Union. Already approved for national use and certified Common Criteria EAL4+ by Germany's Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), the device can now be used to securely connect Voice-over-IP (VoIP) networks.
The approvals enable authorities, military forces, and companies to securely couple VoIP networks. This allows for the sharing of information classified as NATO RESTRICTED and EU RESTRICTED via VoIP telephony and video conferences. The Secunet SBC operates at the network interface, directing or rejecting VoIP calls based on security criteria while protecting against attacks.
Secunet's Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Kai Martius, stated that the NATO and EU approval signifies increased digital sovereignty on a European and multinational level. He highlighted that the capability to conduct secure VoIP calls, even with classified content, enhances efficiency and resilience, allowing the use of modern voice communication tools.
To conduct VoIP calls with classified content, end devices with corresponding approvals are also required in addition to the Secunet SBC. Secunet's SINA portfolio offers a range of high-security components for various deployment scenarios with national and international approvals.
