Securities Class Action Filed Against Duolingo Following Stock Decline

A securities class action lawsuit has been filed against Duolingo, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. The complaint alleges that the language learning company made false or misleading statements to investors between May 2, 2025, and February 26, 2026, regarding its business operations and financial prospects.

The lawsuit claims that Duolingo prioritized short-term monetization through increased advertising and subscription upselling, despite internal data indicating these actions degraded user experience and negatively impacted growth rates of daily active users (DAU). Furthermore, the complaint asserts that the company’s reliance on rapidly generated AI content harmed overall product quality, contrary to public representations regarding user retention.

Duolingo’s stock price suffered significant declines during the class period, notably falling 25.49% on November 6, 2025, following reports of slowing user growth and a pivot in corporate strategy. Further losses occurred in January 2026 after the departure of the company's CFO and subsequent disappointing preliminary metrics, culminating in a 14.01% decline on February 27, 2026, when official fourth-quarter results confirmed the negative impact of these strategic shifts.

Investors who incurred losses during the specified period may seek to be appointed as lead plaintiff. The court-imposed deadline for such applications is December 7, 2026.
