Securities Fraud Class Action Filed Against Alibaba Group Holding Limited

Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro LLP has filed a securities fraud class action lawsuit against Alibaba Group Holding Limited, urging investors who sustained substantial losses to contact the firm. The lawsuit, filed in the Southern District of New York, alleges that Alibaba and certain of its executive officers violated the Securities Exchange Act of 1934.

The core allegations claim that Alibaba and its executives misrepresented and failed to disclose adverse facts regarding the company's business operations. Specifically, the suit accuses the company of making misleading statements or omitting information related to its ties with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), which could classify it as a Chinese military company under the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). It also alleges improper use of third-party AI models for training.

The truth reportedly emerged through disclosures in June 2026. The U.S. Department of Defense added Alibaba to its list of Chinese military companies due to its alleged MIIT connections, causing Alibaba's stock to fall. Additionally, a Bloomberg report revealed claims that Alibaba had fraudulently accessed and used AI models from Anthropic to train its own, leading to a further stock decline.

Hagens Berman is investigating whether Alibaba executives intentionally concealed the company's regulatory ties and engaged in fraudulent practices. Investors who purchased Alibaba securities between June 26, 2025, and June 24, 2026, and suffered significant losses have until October 5, 2026, to seek lead plaintiff status in the case.
