Segway Convenes Shared Micromobility Partners to Discuss Industry Challenges

Segway, a manufacturer of electric scooters and bikes, recently convened a gathering in Changzhou, China, bringing together more than 60 shared mobility operators and industry partners. The event focused on addressing the operational challenges within the shared micromobility sector and charting the industry's future direction.

During the event, Segway unveiled its third-generation R1 shared e-scooter and introduced the C-series shared e-bikes, including the C100 and C200 models. Additionally, the F100 e-bike, designed for delivery services, was presented. Segway has expanded its role beyond hardware provision to offering comprehensive technology and service solutions, responding to the industry's shift in focus from fleet size to profitability, uptime, and long-term asset performance.

A key theme was Segway's Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) framework, designed to assess fleet economics by considering revenue generation, operating expenses, and capital investment. This approach moves beyond the initial purchase price to include vehicle availability, maintenance needs, energy consumption, and the lifespan of the assets, all of which impact long-term fleet returns.

Segway indicated that the next phase for shared micromobility involves extending vehicle service life, reducing operational resource requirements, and enhancing the integration of fleets into urban transportation systems. The company aims to collaborate with its partners to solve real-world challenges and improve operational efficiency.
