Seinäjoen KTK Achieves Cost-Efficient Crushing with Metso Lokotrack Equipment

Seinäjoen KTK, a Finnish transport company, expanded its business into aggregate crushing and screening in 2014. Since March 2015, the company has been operating a two-stage diesel-electric Metso Lokotrack chain, comprising the LT120E™ jaw crusher and the LT330D™ crushing and screening plant.

The strategic decision to enter aggregate production aimed to secure more work for the company's partners and increase its market share. To date, KTK has crushed and screened more than 450,000 metric tons of aggregate, targeting an annual production of 600,000 tons. Approximately 60-70% of the processed material is used by KTK's own operations.

When selecting equipment, Seinäjoen KTK evaluated various suppliers, ultimately choosing Metso based on its offered equipment, maintenance services, and overall cost-effectiveness. Janne Kangas, who manages crushing operations, cited prior positive experiences with Metso's equipment.

Fuel costs are a significant factor in contract crushing. The diesel-electric Lokotrack units have demonstrated strong fuel economy, with consumption remaining below initial investment estimates. The LT120E typically consumes 22 liters per hour, and the LT330D consumes 38 liters per hour, though actual usage varies with the type of material being processed.
